If you use Microsoft Azure Backup (aka MABs) you may see “You have used x% of maximum disk space on x allocated for shadow copy storage:

Fortunately there is a very easy fix; expand the amount of disk VSS is allowed to use. To expand the Volume Shadow Copy allowed disk space, you can either use the VSSADMIN command line tool, or just do it through the GUI:

To change the amount of disk allowed to be used by Shadow Copy:

  1. Opne FILE EXPLORER
  2. Right click on any of your disks (i.e. c:\ ) and select CONFIGURE SHADOW COPIES)
  3. Double click on the volume in queston (E:\ in the screenshot above) and change the MAXIMUM SIZE to whatever you want
  4. Have a nice day
